Another long-term threat comes from NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA  ) , which has developed a cloud-based GPU platform that will enable developers to offer "gaming as a service." This business model could become very popular with consumers, as it would eliminate the upfront cost of consoles and games, and allow users to stream games to any Internet-connected device. It could also prove to be much more customer-friendly, as people could t! ry a game out before committing to subscribe and getting full access.

The Korea Times is reporting thatApple (NASDAQ: AAPL  ) has cut Samsung out of producing its next-generation A7 chip. The Mac maker continues to diversify its component supplier base away from Samsung. Apple has already begun moving display sourcing toLG Display (NYSE: LPL  ) . The A7 business is reportedly going toTaiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE: TSM  ) and its 20-nanometer process. The transition could hurt Samsung, since it would be left with excess unused. Samsung has supposedly been trying to grow its business withNVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA  ) to mitigate the risk of losing some Apple business.
